The Mother of all grains-excellent protein quality, A complete Protein Nutritious Whole Grain with all 9 essential amino acids
Quinoa is widely known as one of the most perfect natural foods/grains on earth, that contains all 9 essential amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. Very few whole grains can be classified as 'complete' protein with all 9 essential amino acids that are essential for growth, development & repair in the human body. Excellent whole food for growing children, active lifetyles, all stages in life. Quinoa is a good source of essential amino acids, magnesium, iron, calcium, manganese, copper, phosphorus, and Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), and many other phytonutrients.
Does the color of the Quinoa seed mean anything? Well, yes! White quinoa has the lightest texture and tends to cook up fluffier, which makes it a no-brainer substitute for rice dishes. Red quinoa and Black quinoa have a crunchier texture than White quinoa and the colored grains hold their shape better in salads.
How to Cook Quinoa seeds:
1) Rinse quinoa in a fine mesh strainer. Place 1 part Quinoa and 2 parts water (or stock) in a sauce pan, bring to a boil.
2) Reduce to a simmer, cook for 15-20 minutes until the quinoa is translucent, plump and the external germ (“spiral tail’) is visible.
3) Quinoa cooks like rice and can also be cooked in a rice cooker (1 cup quinoa with 2 cups of water).
